Arun Mahajan, Scott Tillman and me climbed the Southeast Batress on Cathedral Peak On Sunday, September 26th 1999. We went somewhat East of the normal route and ended on a slightly harder terrain then expected. Scott did an excelent job leading the hard pitches and he let me lead the easier ones. I took the first pitch, starting at the toe of the batress and pull 80 meter to the first nice belay spot, Arun and Scott simulclimb as there was only one section of real class 5. Scott lead the next pitch into what seemed to be a wide gully (is this the chimney people are talking about?) I led the next pitch on the right side of the gully on a system of flakes. Then Scott led the next pitches that were a bit harder. This was definitly harder then 5.6. Once on the summit, we used our 2 60 meter ropes to rappel directly into the east side slop and walked back to get our packs

This is me at the Belay station for the first pitch on the South East Buttress. The edge of Echo Peaks is visible in the upper left corner.
