I was on a camping trip with my family to D. L. Bliss campground on Lake Tahoe. The Campground is located between highway 89 and the lake just North of Emerald Bay. To the West of the campground, across the highway is an impressive ridge with several summits. Two of the summits, Rubicon Peak and ... are on the Tahoe OGUL Peak List
I started hiking from the campground straight up hill following the drainage. I asked the ranger in the information office if there is a trail, but he didn't know of one. There is one trail starting from about 5 mile North of the campground and leading to the other side of the range, but not from the West side.
The climb to the top of the ridge was long and hard. It is
a 3000 ft. elevation gain on a steady 40 degree slop. It took
me about 2 hours. Once on top, I first climbed the higher peak
9268 because it was closer to me. Then I crossed the saddle over
to Rubicon Peak. Once on the peak, I could see a ridge descending
down to the lake a couple of miles North of the campground. I
followed the ridge on the way down thinking it will be easier
then the drainage. Somebody else must have thought the same way,
because I found a use trail following the ridge. The trail lead
from a housing development a couple of miles North of campground
and on the West side of the highway all the way to the peak.
