Network Appliance Inc. (11/99 – present)

Manager of Internal Communications & Community Relations

§         Introduce and manage global communication systems including introducing use of technology with simultaneous global web casting of corporate All Hands Meetings and web-based Q&A with Execs.

§         Develop communications strategies and plans for company-wide and functional initiatives.

§         Coach, consult, and ghost write for CEO and other executives about internal communications supporting strategic business objectives and organizational changes (including acquisitions).

§         Manage Communications Project Manager and Community Relations Contractor.

§         Led cross-functional team that secured executive sponsorship and deployed streaming technology globally to enable live streaming of corporate All Hands that fundamentally changed internal communications across functions around the world.

·         Launched private marketing of Success for All reading program; 14 public schools adopted Success for All (SFA) and contracted for training and materials through Education Partners in first year, sales doubled in second year.

·         Tested and evaluated marketing and sales approaches including trade shows, targeted direct mail, increased public relations, direct sales, and public recognition from State Departments of Education.

·         Obtained compliance approval of California Department of Education to use Instructional Fund Monies to pay for curriculum materials.

·         Convinced Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction in Washington State to include SFA as a program eligible to receive categorical reading reform funds.

·         California State Board of Education approved of use of AB3482 funds for SFA.

·         Developed corporate identity and positioning for Education Partners.

·         Edited collateral materials developed by Johns Hopkins University to support sales effort.

·         Sold customized contract training and educational services of CSM to business and government entities. Managed contracts with United Airlines, Pacific Bell, and MCI. Developed marketing proposals, curriculum proposals, advertising and public relations materials to recruit employees for classes. Recruited instructors. Managed delivery of training.

·         Provided public relations and marketing support to the Cooperative Education Program that served an average of 1000 students per year. Introduced and edited newsletter "Coop Connection." Revised Student Handbook. Wrote program for 1988 California Cooperative Education Association Conference.

·         Taught Management Communications a class transferable to the California State University system.

Assistant Vice President (7/77-11/84)

·         Developed new investment services. Wrote business cases and marketing plans for new service concepts. Directed Market Research vendor. Participated in strategic planning process of division.

·         Directed product management for Wells Fargo's $450 million credit card portfolio. Managed staff of five including three marketing officers who evaluated and recommended new and/or improved products, services and pricing. Annual department budget of approximately $1+ million. Prepared short-term division business plan. Implemented December 1981 fee increase that generated immediate income of approximately $6 million. Introduced cross sell of bank products through both statement messages and statement inserts, of testing sale of merchandise offered by third party vendors through both direct mail and statement inserts, and of a new credit card application distribution system using both Wells Fargo branch and merchant locations. Planned implementation of gold MasterCard product.

·         Designed and implemented a comprehensive regional sales program that included product knowledge and sales training programs. Directed Personal Banking Officer Program, which entailed training, goal setting, counseling and recruiting. Profit planning, goal setting and market research for 23 branch offices in Region. Coordinated regional public and customer relations. Recommended corporate contributions.

·         Liaison responsibility for $40 million Sub-Saharan loan portfolio. Coordinated with London-based account officers and Merchant Banking Group to fulfill Agency responsibility for syndicated West African loans. Received foreign visitors. Developed political and economic country profiles.

 

CIVIC ACTIVITIES

Many of my activities revolved around advocating for public education in both the local community as well as at the state level through my activities with the California School Boards Association.  My activities ranged from serving as spokesperson for county-wide No on 174 Campaign to setting policy and direction as part of the School Board.
